The new L5 Specialist Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship, launched in 2025, offers teaching assistants a further opportunity for professional development with access to the apprenticeship levy.
In order to support this initiative, for candidates who have completed their apprenticeship, HNAP, the HLTA National Assessment Partnership, has developed an
ASSESSMENT ONLY ROUTE
On completion of their STA Apprenticeship, candidates are invited to contact NPAO who will manage the assessment only route on behalf of HNAP. (contact details will be available end of Feb 26).
Applications will be accepted from those who have completed the apprenticeship and are at the point of going through to the final assessment stage ( Gateway) –a minimum of a pass will need to be achieved to proceed with their HLTA application.
Successful applicants will be provided with details of how to register for the Assessment Only route and will provided with comprehensive guidance materials including how to signpost and link the evidence from their final portfolio and gateway feedback reports to the HLTA standards and the assessment itself. Documents explaining the standards will also be provided as well as a timescale for submitting the paperwork and being assessed.
There will be no requirement to undertake a preparation route or to complete any additional written work.
The cost of the assessment is £350.
